Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a complex group of medical illnesses that requires concerted multispecialty care and frequent updates to standard of practice. Medical providers from multiple specialties encounter these patients and are challenged to keep current with up-to-date bestpractices. This event is designed for pulmonologists, cardiologists, rheumatologists, internists, hospitalists as well as RNs, APRNs and physician’s assistants specializing in pulmonary hypertension. The conference’s intent is to facilitate clinicians’ ability to evaluate and manage pulmonary vascular disorders by enhancing knowledge in the following areas:

  • Diagnosis and evaluation of pulmonary hypertension
  • Application of the latest therapies for pulmonary hypertension
  • At the completion of the course, clinicians will also have a better understanding of when to refer patients with pulmonary vascular disorders to specialty referral centers

Target Audience:

This symposium is designed for pulmonologists, cardiologists, rheumatologists, internists, family practitioners and hospitalists. The population of nurses that the symposium is best suited for are pulmonary nurses, cardiology nurses and rheumatology nurses. It is also geared for APRNs and physician’s assistants both in general practices as well as in pulmonary, cardiology, or rheumatology.

At the completion of this conference, participants (as appropriate to their scope of practice) should be able to:

  • Recognize patients at-risk for or suspected to have pulmonary hypertension (PH)
  • Identify strengths, weaknesses and advanced capabilities for echocardiography in patients with PH
  • Identify patients with pulmonary hypertension related to chronic lung disease
  • Recognize key steps for optimally evaluating patients with known or suspected chronic thromboembolic disease
  • Assess pertinent information from right heart catheterizations and further information that can be obtained
  • Describe options and obstacles for caring for patients with PH at the end of life
  • Discuss or describe new directions, including ongoing trials, for the evaluation and management of PH
