Women are more frequently diagnosed with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), but despite this, they also exhibit better right ventricular function and higher survival rates than men. A better understanding of the effects of sex hormones on the pulmonary vascular system is still needed both to explain the observed gender differences and to provide new avenues for future therapies.
