Patients with scleroderma may develop interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, or both. thirty to fifty percent of patients with scleroderma or mixed connective tissue disease will develop PAH. Unfortunately, the development of PAH portends a very poor prognosis. For this reason it is imperative that routine screening occurs in order to aggressively treat these patients as early in the disease process as possible.
