Virginia D. Steen, MD, is Professor of Medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center, where she is the Fellowship Director in the Rheumatology division, as well as Consultant in Rheumatology in the Arthritis Division of the NIH. Dr. Steen holds an MD from University of Pittsburgh where she also had a fellowship in rheumatology and a residency in internal medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. She collaborated on a research program on early diagnosis and exercise induced PH with Drs Kuru and Morrissey that produced one of the first documentations of the existence of exercise induced PH in scleroderma. Dr Steen has made contributions to add to the understanding of the Systemic Scleroderma. She has been on the Medical Advisory Board of the National and local Scleroderma Foundation for many years and they recently named her the ‘Doctor of the Year" for her dedicated work for the Foundation, the patients, and the rheumatologists caring for scleroderma patients.
